Fishermen dive into the harbor to freeze to save the sinking car driver in Peterhead

Two fishermen were acclaimed heroes last night after plunging into a harbor to save a woman from her sinking car.

They dragged the 23-year-old driver of your Ford Fiesta then plunged through the railing into the water in the port of Peterhead. The fishermen, who had been fishing nearby, managed to bring it back to Earth before the emergency services arrived.

The identity of the good Samaritans remained a mystery yesterday, but Peterhead councilor Stuart Pratt said: "They deserve a medal. It is up to them to come forward, but they should receive something.

"They are heroes, valiant men."

Mysterious men are considered descendants of Eastern Europeans. Councilman Tom Malone added: "It is a very good story when it could have been so terribly tragic."

The woman was taken to hospital but is not thought to have been injured. The incident occurred shortly before 5:00 on Sunday. Later, the car was hoisted out of the water by a crane.

Police said investigations were under way to establish how the vehicle came to be on the water.
