The incident Wednesday resulted in a rescue operation on a large scale after the woman fell about 40 feet onto rocks below.
A woman who fell from a cliff was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.
Teams of emergency services were scrambled to Hawkcraig Point, below the Forth View Hotel, Aberdour in Fife at 09:50 yesterday to assist ambulance crews that were already in place.
The woman fell about 40 feet onto rocks and suffered serious head injuries, a spokesman for the ambulance service said.
She was taken by ambulance to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.
The fire service had crews Burntisland, Dunfermline and a specialist rope rescue team from Lochgelly in place.
"The incident involved a woman who had fallen about 12 feet on rocks sustain serious injuries," said a spokesman for the fire service.
"The emergency team consisting of 26 personnel Scottish Fire and Rescue, the coastguard, inshore lifeboat, police and ambulance service Scottish worked to stabilize the victim and take her to the waiting ambulance, where she was taken to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy.
"The rescue was hampered due to the nature of the injuries and dangerous ground, but proved to be a great example of partnership working between our emergency service personnel to bring the incident to a safe conclusion."
Team Coast Guard Kinghorn, Leven and South Queensferry and the Kinghorn lifeboat were on the scene and helped ambulance crews to move the victim, a spokesman for the Coast Guard said.
Police are investigating the incident.
