A young girl and two adults were killed in a horror smash in one of the most dangerous roads in Scotland last night.

The scene of the smash on the A9 at Ralia

The trio were killed while traveling on the notorious A9 route between Newtonmore and Kingussie in the Highlands around 17:50.

Three cars, including an Audi dark in color, were involved in the massacre around a mile south of Raila near the end of a dual carriageway newly extended.

Two cars registered British and German vehicles were involved in the collision and all emergency services were called to the scene, including four firefighters.

Police said three people suffered fatal injuries and three injured were taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment.

Road policing unit Scotland Police were also alerted and they closed the main road south of Perth from Inverness to conduct its investigation into the tragedy.

Diversions were set up across the road to Laggan leading to the west coast A82 route to Glasgow via Fort William.

But a truck broke down on the narrow road and there was no way to enter or leave the Highlands, not going back to Aviemore and east of Aberdeen.

The roads were expected to be closed for most of the night and of Scotland Police said motorists in the area would face significant delays.

It is the latest fatal accident occurred in dangerous section of road south of Aviemore.

Two men died on the route in June last year in a collision between a van and a title for the music festival Rockness tour bus.

The driver and passenger of the van died as a result of the collision of Raila.

The woman driving the bus, carrying 47 passengers from Edinburgh to Rockness, suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital after being cut free by firefighters. Fourteen passengers were treated at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness by injuries.

A9 was also closed for a short period of time last night in both directions by Couto after a collision involving a car and van near the deviation Embo.

The driver of the car suffered minor injuries after her vehicle ended up in a field. Three men in the van, which belonged to Scotrail, were unharmed.
